How we rate and rank casinos

This page sets out exactly how our ratings and rankings are produced. It is public so that any reader can understand, and challenge, the position of a casino. It applies in the same way to every operator, whether or not it pays us.

Prerequisite: the Belgian licence

A casino is only rated and ranked if its exact domain appears on the Gaming Commission list of A+ licences (online casinos) or B+ licences (online gaming arcades), with an expiry date later than the day of display. These lists are read automatically every day. If synchronisation fails for more than 72 hours, all links to operators are switched off until the next successful check. A domain that appears on the Commission blacklist loses its promotional review at once.

The seven rated criteria

Each casino receives a score from 0 to 10, with one decimal place, on each of the following criteria:

  • Safety and licence: type and expiry of the licence, identity of the holder, limit and self-exclusion tools offered to the player;
  • Games: size and range of the library, providers, availability of a live casino;
  • Payments: deposit methods available to a Belgian player, minimum deposit, any fees;
  • Withdrawals: stated withdrawal time, minimum amount, withdrawal methods and fees;
  • Mobile: iOS and Android apps, quality of the site on a phone;
  • Customer service: availability in French and Dutch, live chat;
  • Offer and terms: clarity of the terms and game rules, compliance of the commercial offer with article 60 of the Act, which prohibits any bonus.

How the overall rating is calculated

The overall rating out of 10 is the arithmetic mean of the seven criterion scores, rounded to one decimal place. No criterion carries more weight than another. A rating is never bought and does not change with the language or the site on which you read it.

How rankings are ordered

  • Best casinos: overall rating from highest to lowest, alphabetical order in case of a tie;
  • New casinos: launch date on the Belgian market, newest first;
  • Fast withdrawals: withdrawal time stated by the operator, shortest first;
  • Return to player: average RTP disclosed, highest first;
  • Minimum deposit: casinos whose first deposit does not exceed the amount of the page, lowest first;
  • Payment method: casinos that accept the method, by overall rating.

Our editors may adjust the order of a themed ranking for an editorial reason, which is shown on the casino card. Such an adjustment is never made in return for payment.

The comparison tool

Our comparisons set two casinos side by side on sixteen objective criteria (rating, licence, launch, number of games and slots, live casino, minimum deposit and withdrawal, withdrawal time, payment methods, apps, customer service languages, chat and RTP). A row only has a winner when both values are known. Missing data is shown as "to be checked" and never makes the other casino win.

Sources and updates

Licence data comes from the official Gaming Commission lists. Commercial features (times, amounts, payment methods) come from the terms published by each operator and are dated on the review. Every review is revisited at least every 90 days.

Frequently asked questions

Can a casino pay to improve its rating?

No. The rating is the average of the seven criteria described on this page. No payment changes it and no operator can buy a place in a ranking.

Why is a casino missing from your rankings?

Either its domain is not on the A+ or B+ lists of the Gaming Commission, its licence has expired, or we do not yet have enough verified data to rate it.

Is the withdrawal time shown guaranteed?

No. It is the time stated by the operator on the date of our check. The actual time depends on the verification of your account and on the payment method.

What does "to be checked" mean in a comparison?

That the data has not been collected yet or could not be confirmed. It does not count towards the criteria won.

How often do ratings change?

A rating changes when a review is revisited, at least every 90 days, or sooner if the operator changes its terms or its licence status changes.

Do you rate sports betting?

No. The law prohibits redirecting players from one licence to another: our casino reviews never point to a betting offer.
